Total War: Warhammer 3 was finally revealed today, pitting the defenders of the mortal realms against the four Chaos Gods and their demonic minion hordes. The title launches on both Steam and the Epic Games Store – a first for the series – which, naturally, brings up the question of whether cross-store multiplayer will be available at launch.
Sega and Creative Assembly are aiming to avoid fragmenting the title’s player base, promising that neither storefront will benefit from exclusive content. Simultaneous releases and lack of exclusive goodies aren’t the only steps in this direction, as cross-store multiplayer is part of Total War: Warhammer 3’s launch plans.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Multiplayer
“Yes, we intend to support cross-store multiplayer at launch,” reads an emailed FAQ. While this isn’t the most detailed response, having confirmation that plans are in place to allow Epic Game Store users to clash with or play alongside those on Steam is welcome news.
It remains to be seen whether there will be certain hoops to jump through or if the title’s matchmaking and server browser will simply allow players from either storefront to join matches. We’ll update this post with any additional details as soon as we learn more.
Total War: Warhammer 3 is slated to launch later in 2021 on PC, via both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Here’s how cross-store DLC works.
