Total War: Warhammer 3 might not be out yet, but its daemonic parade continues with the reveal of Nurgle’s unit roster list. After seeing it battle Slaanesh’s forces, we now have a better look at the pestilent horde chosen by the oldest Chaos God to defend his realm and spread his influence across the mortal world.
At the very top of the Nurgle unit roster list is Ku’gath Plaguefather, who acts as the faction’s Legendary Lord in Total War: Warhammer 3. A big boy with a gaping maw where one would expect a stomach and a burning desire to create a contagion that can infect the Gods, he rides into battle atop a palanquin carried by loyal Nurglings.
On the field, he fulfills the role of an artillery unit, a powerful spellcaster, and an expert summoner that’s well-versed in the Lore of Nurgle. Explosive Nurglings are another of his favorite things and, while he may not be the ultimate duelist, he makes up for it as a leader of troops.
In terms of Lords, Nurgle’s roster features the Herald of Nurgle, who possess great strength and hardiness thanks to the gifts of their god, alongside the Exalted Great Unclean One. Both are formidable foes, having access to spells from the Lore of Nurgle and the Lore of Death.
Nurgle’s Cultists then serve the purpose of plague spreaders, infiltrating armies and cities belonging to other factions with the purpose of weakening them from within.
Plaguebearers are the faction’s rank and file, compensating for their slow movement speed and lack of armor with higher health pools and strength that’s perfect when you need to keep enemy units busy.
On the opposite end, the Plague Lord’s Chaos Furies stand out thanks to their speed, being great at outflanking enemy units and employing hit-and-run tactics, which can’t necessarily be said about all that many of their fellow daemons.
Plague Toads are very cute, as far diseased monstrosities eager to rip off your face go, and can fulfill both the role of anti-infantry war beasts on their own, or that of mounts for the Pox Riders of Nurgle.
The faction also has access to its own version of the Soul Grinder, which is an all-rounder that can lob poisonous projectiles at great ranges, excelling at disrupting enemy formations.

Nurgle’s unit roster sounds slower but more resilient than that of Total War: Warhammer 3’s other factions. It might not be the most versatile but, if you don’t quite fancy Tzeentch’s spellcasting and hit-and-run tactics, it will likely be right up your alley.
Total War: Warhammer 3 launches on PC on February 17, 2022. The game’s pre-order bonus faction has been confirmed as the Ogre Kingdoms whose warriors are quite big and very fond of food.
