Valheim’s world is a harsh one and survival often depends on the quality of the tools with which you’re working. You should always strive to improve your equipment and, early on, you’ll want to keep track of Copper Deposit locations, as the ore you can harvest from them quickly proves instrumental in your efforts.
To access Valheim’s Copper Deposits, you will, however, need to venture past the game’s first biome and make sure you’ve crafted one particular item. Punching rocks won’t get you all that far in this survival game.
Before setting off to hunt for Copper Deposit locations, you’ll want to make sure that you’ve defeated Eikthyr, Valheim’s first boss. Claiming his antlers enables you to build the Antler Pickaxe that’s required for extracting Copper Ore.
Once you’ve secured the item, it’s time to move beyond Valheim’s first biome, the Meadows. You’ll want to head towards the Black Forest biome, which you can identify by its pine and fir trees. Its name also appears on your minimap and you even get a notification if you’re encountering it for the first time.
As you explore the Black Forest, you’ll begin noticing large stone boulders, some of which have shiny yellow veins stretching across their surface. Approach them and helpful text will inform you that you’ve found a Copper Deposit location.
From that point on, it’s mostly a matter of striking it repeatedly with your pickaxe and collecting the ore that drops. Do note that you’ll also get stone in the process, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your inventory. Your pickaxe also degrades with use, requiring repairs.
Valheim’s Copper Deposits don’t seem to have fixed locations in its world, at least from what we can tell, so you can really just pay attention while exploring. Another thing you need to know is that they often extend deep underground.
It can prove worth mining through the rock and dirt at the center of a boulder, as you can, quite often, find additional copper ore below ground. Naturally, it’s a good idea to equip yourself with at least a modicum of patience when heading out to mine for it.
