Hystrix is one of Warframe’s many gimmicky weapons, though we must admit this is one of the most useful such weapons yet. An automatic sidearm/quill-launcher, the Hystrix can switch between four basic elemental effects whenever the player wishes to do so.
Originally launched as Khora’s signature sidearm, the Hystrix has carved a niche for itself in the area of dishing out huge numbers of elemental procs whenever necessary, and its gimmick allows for it to scale into endgame levels quite well.
How to get Hystrix?
You can purchase the Hystrix Blueprint via the in-game Warframe Marketplace for a measly 25 000 Credits, and it’s available as early as Mastery 7, which is good news for newbies to the game. Here are the build requirements:
- 20 000 Credits
- Bolto
- Viper
- 9 750 Ferrite
- 15 Control Module
Not that big of an investment at face value, but that’s because the Hystrix requires for you to have both a Viper and a Bolto as build pre-requisites. Build both of those beforehand, so that the crafting process for Hystrix goes smoothly.
When you claim the weapon, just equip it and use your alt-fire command to switch between Toxin, Heat, Electricity, and Cold elements at will. Do keep in mind, however, that this does not mean that Hystrix does elemental damage - the weapon simply applies a guaranteed proc of the selected element by default.
This is a blessing in disguise, as you can mod Hystrix to be a truly impressive sidearm without relying solely on elemental damage. The weapon features a high Puncture damage, an impressive 24% crit chance, and a decent 10% status chance. Since Hystrix guarantees elemental procs, we suggest you make use of the Condition Overload synergy for added bonus.
With weapons such as the Hystrix, it’s no wonder Warframe is a mainstay on our list of best free PC games. Keep in mind that the game’s resident trader in things rare and exotic - Baro Ki Teer - is coming tonight, so stay tuned for an inventory review.
