Publisher Frontier Foundry and developer Complex Games today unveiled the very first gameplay trailer for upcoming turn-based tactical RPG Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters. The title, in case you’re unaware, focuses on a squad of Grey Knights bringing the Emperor’s might upon the forces of Chaos that seek to spread a plague called The Bloom across the universe.
If there’s one thing Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters’ gameplay trailer reinforces is how Nurgle is very fond of his beloved plagues, sending a Great Unclean One and a host of smaller daemons to thwart the player’s efforts of cleansing the universe.
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters’ combat seems to follow a fairly traditional turn-based template, featuring a mixture of ranged and melee weapons, but also gadgets such as grenades.
One daemon can be seen wielding a staff from which an ominous aura is emanating, which could debuff enemies or buff friendly units. Cover seems to also play a role, but the game also features destructive environments that both you and your foes can exploit.
“Target plasma generators to throw enemies from their hiding spots in the darkness, or bring a crumbling pillar crashing down upon them. Whether you choose to strike down the warp-spawn up close or from afar, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters adds a variety of new mechanics to the turn-based tactics genre,” reads an emailed press release.
Aside from its turn-based battles, there’s also a strategic view that lets you pick the systems you travel to using your Strike Cruiser, The Baleful Edict, which you can also upgrade using resources obtained from battles. On top of that, you can also customize your squad members’ loadout and abilities.
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters arrives on PC at some point in 2022.
