Shapeshifting is arguably one of the most fun things you can do in a video game, and I am glad that you can do this in Baldur’s Gate 3 thanks to the Mask of the Shapeshifter headpiece. With this magical headpiece, you can disguise your character as someone else, regardless of race or gender.
Shapeshifting isn’t solely for entertainment purposes in BG3; it provides numerous advantages. Beyond merely changing appearance, shapeshifting grants access to abilities that might be restricted in your original race. Additionally, when building relationships with different NPCs, it allows for seamless integration and the option to choose exclusive dialogues.
Utilizing the Mask of the Shapeshifter in BG3 can be a tad complex, as it involves more than a simple click of the item. However, there’s no need to worry; we’re here to guide you on how to get and use the Mask of the Shapeshifter in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Get Mask of the Shapeshifter in Baldur’s Gate 3
Currently, the only way to get Mask of the Shapeshifter in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to purchase the Digital Edition. If you already own the game, you can purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition DLC that comes with the mask for $9.99. Meanwhile, those of you who purchased the game during early access, or before the final launch on August 3, 2023, should already have it in-game.
The first thing you need to do is claim your mask. Head to your camp and find a big yellow box near Shadowheart. There, press left-click twice on the yellow box to claim your mask and other Digital Deluxe items. Next, open your inventory and drag the Mask of the Shapeshifter to your helm slot. This should replace whatever helm or headpiece you’re using. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to Shapeshift.
On the bottom toolbar, click on the Shapeshift spell. Doing this will open a new tab that prompts you to choose which race and gender you’d like to disguise yourself into. Once you’ve made up your mind, your character’s appearance will instantly change based on your preferred option.
Your character will gain a new appearance, but you won’t be able to customize their features like how you would in character creation. It’s all randomly generated in the game. You can shapeshift as many times as you like as long as you have the Mask of the Shapeshifter equipped.
