Actor Dominic Cooper is currently tipped to star opposite as male lead Dino, an ex-NASCAR racer who builds a business out of modifying cars. Need for Speed should screen February 7th, 2014.
Act of Valor director Scott Waugh is directing the film which was scripted by George Gatins. Whilst said to be faithful to the EA franchise it isn’t based on any one NFS title.
Aaron Paul’s character is an underground racer who owns a garage that tweaks expensive cars for illegal street races, reports Variety. He is framed and sent to prison when his best friend is murdered during a race, where he seeks revenge once out again. Cooper’s Dino meanwhile uses his top connections to build his little car modifying empire. |
Patrick O’Brien from EA is attached to produce, along with Mark Sourian and John Gatins. Dominic Cooper starred in Captain America: The First Avenger as Howard Stark while Aaron Paul is the co-star of TV’s Breaking Bad.
”I’m excited about getting back into the creative trenches with John and George Gatins and my partners at EA to bring to life an exhilarating script based on an epic video game that seems to have been made for the movies,” said DreamWorks’ Steven Spielberg back in June when the plans were announced. ”This is a big piece of business for DreamWorks and we are grateful to Frank Gibeau, Pat O’Brien, Kevin Maher and John and George for choosing us to deliver their goods.”
The latest Need for Speed has no storyline beyond the goal of the player to become the most wanted driver. The previous instalment, NFS: The Run, did however play host to a Hollywood-style narrative featuring actors.
