Volition finally revealed that new project they’ve been teasing at PAX Prime, and as we expected it’s a new entry in the Saints Row franchise. Not a whole new game, but a standalone expansion titled Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell.
As you might have guessed, the expansion sees series regular and general nutcase Johnny Gat make his escape from the underworld. While winding up poor Satan in the process.
The fittingly insane trailer explains the… err…. plot - the Saints leader (the guy/girl you’ve played as in previous games) has been sucked into Hell. Gat and fellow Saint Kinzie jump in after him, and Gat promises to ”shoot the Devil in the face”, rescue his boss and escape. And thus plenty of comically ridiculous violence ensues. One thing you can’t accuse Volition of is taking themselves too seriously.
Rather than jumping across the city a la Saints Row 4, Gat has a sweet pair of demonic wings. He also packs two knives for close-quarters combat and an arsenal of all-new Hell themed weapons, including seven unique tools of mass destruction each themed on one of the seven deadly sins. Sloth is a Lay-Z-Boy armchair with two miniguns and a rocket launcher attached, for example.
Gat Out of Hell is scheduled for January 27, 2015, and will set you back a pretty reasonable $20. Not the brand spanking new Saints game I was hoping for, but it looks like a lot of fun.
