The last Legacy of Kain game to be released on PC was back in 2003 with Legacy of Kain: Defiance. In a recent interview, developer Crystal Dynamics stated that there was a ”50/50 chance” of the series getting resurrected.
In the interview, studio senior designer Michael Brinker related, ”It’s interesting because people look back at our history and our franchises and see that we have some really great iconic IPs.So gamers wonder; ‘where are they and what are they doing?’ Well we’re always tossing around and talking about ideas. It really is 50/50.”
The first game in the series was developed for the PlayStation One by Dennis Dyack’s Silicon Knights with Crystal Dynamics publishing it. Crystal Dynamics took over developing duties with the second game in 1999, and developed every game in the series after that til the final game in the series, Defiance.
Nosgoth, released in 2013 and developed by Rocket League developer Psyonix, is a free-to-play online multiplayer game that is a spinoff from the Kain IP. Crystal Dynamics is currently responsible for the development of Rise of the Tomb Raider.
