Gamers who purchased or pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order can now register to play the closed alpha multiplayer demo, which id Software is using to stress test the servers.
This is not the beta promised by Wolfenstein: The New Order, however. ”The DOOM MP Closed Alpha is a series of development-driven tests designed to stress test the game’s dedicated server infrastructure in a real-world consumer environment. It is not the Beta (offered with Wolfenstein®: The New Order™ pre-order), a demo, or representative of the final game,” states the DOOM site.
The alpha will only consist of one gameplay mode (6 vs 6 team deathmatch) on a single map, Heatwave. Players will have access to 6 normal weapons and 2 equipment items, and one special weapon, the one-hit kill Gauss Cannon. In addition, player can turn into a “Revenant” creature equipped with a jetpack by grabbing a rune on the map.
