The rebooted Master of Orion hit Steam in Early Access form about six months ago, updating the classic sci-fi 4X title with help from its original developers. Now it’s finally about to reach its 1.0 release bringing the game to a fresh, wider audience at a lower price tag later this month.
The game will release on August 25 with a $29.99 Standard Edition. Players previously had to buy the $50 Collector’s Edition to get into the game, and that option will still exist, providing some extra races and access to the original three games. The Standard Edition will contain the full set of features that Master of Orion is built around.
While the game is leaving Early Access, that doesn’t mean development is ending, as a variety of new features are still being planned. Multiplayer custom races are in the works, as well as a redesigned minor civilization feature. Mod support will be coming down the line as well, including races, ships, planets, technologies, and structures.
There was a sudden, unexpected rush of sci-fi 4X games this year, between Master of Orion, Stellaris, and lesser known titles like Polaris Sector. Response to this updated classic has been pretty positive, and hopefully that will continue after it’s actual release.
