An upcoming mod for Fallout New Vegas has received a 4-minute trailer to showcase just how big this mod will be. In fact, the mod itself is a fan-made expansion to the game with a huge amount of content including an entire new location, Portland.
Fallout: The Frontier is set primarily in Portland, Oregon, and the world is set to be “as big if not bigger than Mojave” So just think about that for a second, this is an expansion that’s world will be at least the size of the original map. You’ll be able to play through with your current New Vegas character, and the story centers around an NCR general named Blackthorne, who is exiled to Portland from New Vegas’s Mojave desert. There he battles with the Legion to claim The Frontier’s secrets and find a way to return to the Mojave with a large force.
The Portland setting is called the frontier due to its nuclear-frozen wastes. After the nukes hit the dust blocked the Sun and thus the ground was chilled by nuclear ash clouds. The game world will feature everything you have come to expect from a Fallout game including Vaults, exotic locales, city landmarks and of course, a few surprises in tow.
The current development status of the mod is viewable on the FAQ over on the project’s website. The team developing the mod is a collection of modders and they are open for other modders to join as they view the project as a “community project” As it currently stands, the project is around 75% of the way there, which is leaving the initial winter release goal looking unlikely.
You’ll need Fallout: New Vegas and its four DLCs to play the mod when its fully released so it might be worth picking up the New Vegas ultimate edition when in goes on sale this winter on Steam.
