Star Wars Eclipse developer Quantic Dream has clarified that development of its current projects are progressing “at full pace,” in response to fans worrying that parent company NetEase’s ongoing strings of layoffs and studio shutdowns could impact the studio.
Aside from surprising everyone by laying off Marvel Rivals’ Seattle-based design team as the free-to-play title launched to notable acclaim and massive player numbers, rumors have been circulating that NetEase is looking to shift focus away from its western games business.
Quantic Dream Developing Games “at full pace”
“We were deeply saddened to learn about the recent layoffs and studio closures affecting some of the NetEase group’s divisions. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, and we sincerely hope that they quickly find new opportunities,” Quantic Dream CEO and Head of Publishing Guillaume de Fondaumière wrote on LinkedIn.
“David Cage and I would like to express our gratitude to the fans and friends who have reached out to us in recent days regarding QUANTIC DREAM. We want to reassure everyone that our studios in Paris and Montreal remain unaffected. We are continuing to develop our projects at full pace, with several open positions available in both locations.”
In addition, the “exceptional performance” of the studio’s back-catalogue titles led it to achieving “the highest revenue in our history” last year. Quantic Dream became a wholly owned subsidiary of NetEase back in 2022.
Speaking to IGN, a representative from NetEase Games’ Global Public Relations Department noted that “NetEase has not wavered in its global expansion plans.”
When asked about Quantic Dream and several other studios under the company’s wing, the representative said that they “haven’t heard any changes so far” before explaining that “we are expecting to bring some of the titles to the public this year.”
While that might help temper fans worried about a potential Quantic Dream closure, it has been a hot minute since we last heard about Star Wars Eclipse, whose lavish cinematic reveal trailer drew tons of attention before the title was surrounded by deafening silence.
Although it’s unlikely that the game counts among those NetEase expects to see released this year, many of us would be content with some news on it.
