Publisher and developer Stray Fawn Studios has unveiled Wartorn as its next project slated to enter early access later this spring.
The real-time tactics roguelite game follows sisters Yara and Elani as they traverse the wartorn Isles of Talaur in an attempt to reach the safety of their ancestral fortress, Beynun.
Real-Time Tactics Roguelite Wartorn Announced
The pair relies on their caravan to do so, recruiting squads of fantasy creatures such as goblins, elves, demons, treefolk, and more to fend off threats.
Each of these squads has its own characteristics and unique abilities, which open up new strategic options when battle is inevitable.
Bringing specific squads with us paves the way to executing powerful combos. Proper positioning also helps get the upper hand on our opponents, as does skillfully employing abilities.
Incurring losses costs morale, a key resource that, when fully depleted, brings any run to its end. To make sure this doesn’t happen, Wartorn also tasks us with mastering its “systemic elemental system.”
In practice, this means that the five elemental forces in the game interact with each other. “Water extinguishes fire, tar amplifies fire, electricity crackles across the ranks in wet conditions, and water can heal plant-based units,” which is “just scratching the surface!” according to the game’s Steam page.
Adding to Wartorn’s replayability are “unpredictable narrative events” as well as the sister’s quest to find members of their family, which is also how the game’s broader story is told.
Stray Fawn Studio’s real-time tactics roguelite is slated to launch in early access on PC, via Steam and the Epic Games Store, at some point in spring 2025.
Wartorn’s price is set to go up when its 1.0 version releases. The team behind it does “not have a definitive length of time” in mind for the game’s early access stay at the time of its announcement, but also notes that “we do not plan to remain in early access overly long.”
