World of Warcraft’s Dragonflight expansion is in full swing and the newly uncovered Dragon Isles are bound to become even more interesting throughout 2023. Patch 10.1’s release date marks the next major update on the game’s roadmap, Embers of Neltharion promising some chunky additions.
WoW: Dragonflight’s patch 10.1 release date was initially expected to occur at some point between spring and summer 2023. It will be preceded by two smaller patches, so there will hopefully be plenty to do in the lead-up to its launch.

Blizzard revealed Embers of Neltharion’s launch window when it also sharied the first details about the new features coming when it does eventually hit live servers.
The developer later narrowed down WoW patch 10.1 release date to May 2 (NA)/May 3 (EU).

The Dragon Isles are getting a new zone in the shape of the underground Zaralek Cavern, giving players who have completed the Embers of Neltharion campaign new ground to explore and treasures to uncover.
The Niffen molefolk and the Drogbar help players navigate the cavern, likely providing one or more new reputation tracks to max out in exchange for different rewards.
You can navigate the area using Dragonriding. The system is bound to receive traits, glyphs, and races. In addition, you’ll be able to add the Winding Slitherdrake mount to your collection.
The Zaralek Cavern also hosts the new Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible raid. Nine new bosses, including Scalecommander Sarkareth, await inside Neltharion’s secret laboratory.
Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties are set to release simultaneously. A new tiers set is also confirmed, giving each class shiny new armor to chase.
It’s also when Season 2 kicks off with new rewards for players who engage in PvP and mythic+, the latter of which will also get a refreshed dungeon pool.
A new gear upgrade system will also roll out, replacing Valor and Storm Gear while covering “most of the game.” It will last for the whole length of WoW: Dragonflight’s Season 2, after which Blizzard will “evaluate how well it’s working and whether we want to keep it.”
Once it’s live, you’ll earn Flightstones from “just about anything you do,” including such activities as completing world quests, killing unique creatures, running a Mythic+ dungeon, defeating a raid boss, and others.
In addition, you’ll also earn Shadowflame Crests or fragments, which are split into four varieties based on the difficulty of the content you’re running.
Both currencies can be used to upgrade “almost any item in Season Two’s max-level gameplay ecosystem.”
Gear obtained via crafting, PvP, alongside any item of a level comparable to a Mythic Raid drop won’t factor into the system upgradable.
Blizzard also notes that the upgrade system is optional and meant “to augment and supplement your gearing journey, not replace it.” A blog post on the game’s official website delves deeper into how it works, providing detailed numbers.
World of Warcraft’s patch 10.1 also brings Fyrakk Assaults and improvements to the user interface, the latter having received a sweeping set of changes with the launch of Dragonflight.
Players will also be able to to create and join same-realm guilds with friends from the opposite faction. To do so, they must be Battle.net friends or belong to the same Battle.net community.
A guild’s faction affiliation depends on the faction of the Guild Leader. Guild achievements and vendors will reflect the guild’s primary faction, while members of the opposite faction will benefit from unlocked shared perks but cannot contribute to progress towards specific achievements.
Guild repairs and social features, including shared chat, will be available to guild members of both factions.
Embers of Neltharion will likely also bring balance changes for classes that might perform too well or not well enough. The exact content of a patch can change as development progresses.
