Although it has faced several hurdles during its lengthy lifetime, World of Warcraft continues to be one of the most popular MMORPGs around. Millions of players have adventured across Azeroth and, as subscription services establish a foothold for themselves in gaming, it’s only fair to wonder if Xbox Game Pass or its PC counterpart might allow even more to join the ranks of the Horde or Alliance.
WoW’s presence on PC Game Pass would certainly make it stand out from its peers, given how it’s already a subscription-based MMO, but nevertheless open another avenue for players new and old to see how the game lives up to the hype.
World of Warcraft Xbox Game Pass
Sadly, World of Warcraft isn’t currently available on either Xbox or PC Game Pass, which means that you’ll have to go through Blizzard’s own launcher and pay the full subscription fee in order to play.
- WoW Xbox/PC Game Pass status: Unavailable at the moment
It’s easy to see why the MMORPG hasn’t made its way to the subscription service’s Xbox version, considering how it’s only available on PC at this point in time.
Its subscription-based model might also explain why we aren’t seeing WoW on PC Game Pass, either, although a recent blog post from Microsoft has led to speculation around this topic.
As you probably know, Microsoft is set to acquire Activision Blizzard, stating the following in the blog post linked above:
“We intend to make Activision Blizzard’s much-loved library of games – including Overwatch, Diablo and Call of Duty – available in Game Pass and to grow those gaming communities.”
Although it’s not part of the list of named games in the quote above, WoW is very much part of Activision Blizzard’s library of titles and was also featured in the blog post’s header image.
We’ll have to wait to see if or when WoW becomes part of PC Game Pass’ extensive library, but it’ll certainly be an interesting one to follow.
In the meantime, Wrath of the Lich King Classic’s pre-patch is now live, while World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is expected to launch later in 2022.
