Core Online is Square Enix’s free-to-play platform, which currently has Tomb Raider Underworld, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Mini Ninjas and Hitman: Blood Money. Now two more join the list.
Hitman: Sniper Challenge and Bejeweled-like RPG Gyromancer are the latest additions. These can be played through the browser for up to 20 minutes per day, with advertisements.
You could always just pay $2.99 a month and play these games all you want, or just buy (rent?) the games for permanent access. Core Online remains in beta.
This is Square Enix’s attempt at getting a slice of the free-to-play pie. The games are ‘sold’ from $4.99 or you can just play them for 20 minutes each day with ads. It’ll be interesting to see how much interest this generates. Hitman: Sniper Challenge was a pre-order incentive for Hitman: Absolution, and proved a surprise hit (no pun intended).
