As promised, the open beta for Orcs Must Die! Unchained is now live. Anyone can register to play Robot Entertainment’s MOBA pitting orcs against humans.
For those who are expecting pure PvP are in for a pleasant surprise: Unchained also includes a PvE mode, allowing for co-op action as well as competitive. According to the developer, ”Initially conceptualised as a PvP game borrowing some ideas from the MOBA genre, the developers acted on community suggestions and expanded Orcs Must Die! Unchained to include an extensive PvE mode and in doing so, recaptured the all-too-familiar tower defence gameplay of the previous games.” So, in essence, the game can be Orcs Must Die! 3 for players who enjoyed the pure co-op of the second game.
As such, while PvP players have access to just two maps on the initial beta launch, PvE gamers will get 8 maps to play with, since play balancing is far easier for co-op. Robot Entertainment has also laid out what to expect from the open beta:
- Free access to the game via omd.gameforge.com and Steam
- 7 language versions
- 12 playable heroes
- 8 maps in PvE mode Survival and 2 maps in Siege PvP
- Traps and items for crafting and upgrading
- Orcs, orcs and even more orcs!
